Binasal Hemianopsia associated with Vascular Compression of the Optic Chiasm

Abstract
Binasal hemianopsia is a rare neurological symptom and is known most commonly caused by intraocular lesions. Other causes of binasal hemianopsia include intracranial mass or bilateral internal carotid aneurysms, neurosyphilis, hydrocephalus, and bilateral optic nerve compression due to increased intracranial pressure. Optic nerve compression by bilateral anterior cerebral artery is very rare. Herein we introduce a man with binasal hemianopsia, which was accidentally found in an ophthalmological examination. There were no intraocular lesions. However, visual pathway damage was confirmed by delayed P100 latency at visual evoked potential. And compression of the lateral fibers of the optic chiasm by both anterior cerebral arteries was confirmed by brain MRI. We emphasize that brain MRI should be checked in addition to an ophthalmological examination in binasal hemianopsia.
